London Riot

In August last year, there was a riot that took place in London. And this riot is as result of police man shot a young guy call Mark Duggan. After couple of days of the burial ceremony his relatives and some of his friends went to the nearest police station to know what he has done for him to be shot. But there is no concrete reason for that. So they start to protest in peaceful way, after that the neighbouring street start to join the crew, and suddenly the protest became a riot. It is believed that they use some of social networks to organised the riot in such a way the police can not stop them or atack them. As result of that the riot start to spread to neighbouring cities such as birmingham, liverpool, and manchester. some of them start to looting and destroying shops.

Quality of life

There are several reasons that will/ are affecting my quality of life at university of Glam. I personaly have reasons that affect me positively and negatively.

First of all, people say environment affect people . This sentence comprises much information, it means where you live, what you do, what you eat, and the people around you. The Welsh Government in generall is a place that always welcoming international students, that was one of the reasons that i choose, and decided to study in the university of Glamorgan among thousand of universities in the world. I found that Glamorgan university is one of the best places to study, due to the fact that the university is located in a small valley where there are less distractions and social life.Furthermore,  Glam teachers are friendly and always give their possible efforts to the students  doing the right things. Globally e-learning has become one of the fastest and easiest ways of learning and today Glamorgan is having well equipped facilities for learning and always looking forward making new techniques for there student to learn easily.

Secondly, one thing that i found it difficult for me to cope with, is the school time table. Because it tooks me couple of weeks  for me to cope with the university schedule. However with  the introduction of  Academic study in the UK context on the topic "Time Management", the assignment gives me am additional knowledge and skills on how to use my time effectively and how to do the right it at the write time. Unlike in high school the teachers are the ones having responsibilities to coordinate you, while here your the one responsible for your self because your future is in your hands.

Thirdly, in terms of health and security services, UK is rated at the top; Here, the country is having specialised & qualified doctors, and well equipped hospital facilities with modern technological machines  to take  good care of their patients. whereas in security services CCTV canera is all over the country which makes less crime rates and confortable for international students.

Finally transportation is one of the major problem in Britain which disturbs the citizens and bordering international students as well.

Social Class

In Nigeria, we have three categories of classes; which comprises the upper class, middle class, and lower class which is also known as (working class). The upper class are mainly those that are in higher position, and this people are the politicians, President, Vice President, Ex presidents, Ministers, Ambassadors and Governors. While Managers, Directors, Bankers, Lawyers, Doctors, Contractors and Royal families are in the middle class. Although, the royal families are also part of the Government and they are paid as well to play there royal activities, and they also be classified in the upper class.

In addition to that the official retirement age in my country for both the men and women is 65years so at that age you are retired, and the Government will start paying you pension with housing, sickness, maternity and death grants benefits.

Furthermore, in health care services,  Nigeria is trying all there effort for the up bringing of children who are homeless. While doing so, there are several organisations that are gathering money for charity and some of them are; Kanu Heart Foundation (K.H.F), Red cross, Salvaha etc. Back home there are many advice Bureau that helps you and advices you when you have strong sickness or infections, and they try as much as possible to take care of you when are not be able to afford money to buy drugs for the diseases.

Lastly, in Nigeria, we do have professional Doctors and they are well paid while many families chosen to have family doctors. Some of the common uniforms that the Doctors wear is basically white plane dress or gown. And in case of emergency their is one particular number that all most all Nigerian citizen have off head in case of in cases.

Due to the fact that UK is still running system, but is not as strict as it was before in the early years. The class structure in the UK is divided into three parts. which are upper, middle and working class. The upper class is made up of the rich people, and those people are the senior politicians, Nobel men, Bishops, entrepreneur, and lastly the royal family. while the middle class are the Doctors, lawyers, and teachers etc. While the working class are mainly the low income earners, and those people include store keepers, cleaners, gardeners etc.

Education in the UK and Nigeria

One of the main advantage of studying in UK is that its Universities are highly recognized all over the world for their for their academic excellence.
Basically education system in the UK is divided into four main parts, primary education, secondary education, further education and higher education.
Primary Education:
Primary education begins in UK when a child is 5 years old. that is when the child has  the ability to talk properly. And he finishes his Primary Education at age of 11.

Secondary Education:
At the age of 11 to 16, the child will now find his way into secondary school to continue his education, and to start preparing to take his GCSE's exams. Further more secondary school education is mandatory in UK.

Further Education:
Once a student finishes  secondary education they have the option to extend into further education to take their A-levels, GNVQ's, BTEC's other such qualifications. After then they will look on forward for planning to go to college or universities to complete further education.

Higher Education:
After completing universities as undergraduate or postgraduate, only few student go further to continue their education, or to Master in some areas, PHD, or  achieve certain level for example professor, Dr. This ranks is given by the University to the students who brings ideas in his field, and is also a sign of respect to him (UK.internationalstudent.com/study_uk 2011)

UK, which is developed country has many methods that helps the student to understand and cope with the institution easily than Nigeria. And they have their citeria in such a way each student has to do his own work alone  with not relying on some other students to do his work or assignments. For example:
Lectures Hall;
In there lectures halls, you find out that  the maximum number of the students are not above fifty in most cases. Which make's the lecture or the tutor to know more about his students and there difficulties of understanding. And the students also make there efforts in asking question in classes.

Britain is a parliament democracy with a constitutional Monarch. The House of commons and the House
lords, together with the Monarch, make up Parliament. The Parliament passes laws, and approves taxation and debates the major issues of the day. The prime minister heads the government and appoints ministers, who head individual government department (parliament.uk/about/how/role/system 2012).

The council of the European union - informally called the council of ministers - is the main decision-making body, which approves European laws jointly with the European parliament. The Presidency of the council rotates every six months from one member state to the next.

The parliament consulted about major decisions, and shares substantial power with the council of the European Union also known as the council of ministers. In areas of legislation its role varies between:

  • co-decision, where a proposal requires the agreement of both the council and the parliament
  • consultation, where the parliament can influence draft legislation but the council has the final decision
  • co-operation and assent procedures, where the parliament's influence is greater (Directgov 2012).

STRENGTHS:
Scheduling:
Much of time management comes down to effective scheduling of your time. When you know what your goals an priorities are, you then need to know how to go about creating a schedule that keep you on track, and protect you from stress.
This means understanding the factors that effect the time you have available for work. You not only have to schedule priority tasks, you have to leave room for interruptions, and contingency time for those unexpected events that otherwise wreak chaos with your schedule. By creating a robust schedule that reflects your priorities and well as supports your personal, you have a winning combination: one that will allow you to control your time and keep your life balance (timethought.com/time-management.html 2012).

As your term begins and your course schedule is set, develop and plan your study in a typical week. jot down one most block that you can study. By doing so, these will help you to achieve the deadlines of your course works or assignments.

WEAKNESSES:
time management can be a compounding weakness because it can amplify other issues. Student should notes all he's weaknesses. Students has to avoid many things for him to be success in meeting deadline or assignments. here are some clue to be avoiding.

Getting started:many people find it hard in starting a task or project

Procrastinating:
Most people procrastinate by doing other things. for example when you are suppose to be working on assignment or project and end up surfing YouTube, Facebook or Wikipedia.

Not Finishing Things:
Not finishing task is another time management weakness. tasks undone create more for you. You have to be discipline not to commence a new task until you are done with the previews one. Because multi tasking often leads to multiple things unfinished.

Interruptions:
When doing particular task you have to keep away all necessary items that will interrupt you. for example by switching off your mobile phones, television and other electric devices. You should also find a convenient places for you to study (mindtools.com/pages/article 2012).
